Why Does British Currency Get Counterfeited More Than Other Currencies?
Counterfeit banknotes are currency produced without the legal approval of a state or government, usually in a deliberate attempt to imitate that currency and defraud its recipient. Producing or using counterfeit banknotes is a form of fraud or forgery and is illegal. The counterfeit banknotes business is almost as old as the banknotes itself: plated copies have been found of Lydian coins, believed to be one of the first Western coins. Before introducing paper currency, the most prevalent method of counterfeiting involved mixing base metals with pure gold or silver. Another form of forgery is the production of documents by legitimate printers in response to bogus instructions. During World War II, the Nazis counterfeited the British pound and the US dollar. Today’s best counterfeit notes are super dollars because of their high quality and imitation of the real US dollar.
